WV DMV Announces Online Driver’s License Renewal

12/16/2016

CHARLESTON, W.Va. - DMV customers needing to renew their West Virginia driver’s license may now do so in just a few minutes from the comfort and convenience of their own homes, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  Commissioner Pat Reed announced today that this new service implementation is just another way that DMV is working hard to make important business transactions easier for customers.

To access the online driver’s license renewal, visit the DMV web site at dmv.wv.gov.  Next, choose online services, and then driver’s license renewal.  Once your transaction is completed, you will receive your new driver’s license in the mail within 10-14 business days.  The picture used will be the most current one on record.

According to Commissioner Reed, “We are very excited to offer our customers the ability to renew their driver’s license from home with our secure and efficient online services portal.  We’ve really worked hard this year to make DMV services more accessible and convenient for our customers.”

Online renewal is available for non-commercial drivers aged 21 years and older, and applicants must be US citizens with licenses in good standing with the DMV.  To ensure the process is secure, no changes can be made to name, address, or certain driver information when renewing online.  To complete the online renewal, drivers will need their current/expired license, the renewal notice mailed by the DMV, which includes the 4 digit pin number they will use in the transaction, and a major credit or debit card.  Additionally, the receipt that customers receive at the end of the transaction will include their picture and a notice for them to keep the receipt with them as they drive until the new license arrives in the mail.
