DMV Wins Center for Digital Government Inaugural Award for “Skip the Trip”

9/14/2017

CHARLESTON, W.Va. - The West Virginia Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV), was recognized this week for winning an inaugural “State Government-to-Citizen Experience” award from the Center for Digital Government (CDG).  The “Skip the Trip” initiative that gives customers the opportunity to do DMV business online or at a convenient self-service kiosk was submitted to the CDG for consideration in this new category.

“Citizen expectations for government are increasingly being reshaped by their experiences with consumer technologies. The website is no longer the only experience they use – it’s now one of many channels in their overall experience,” said Dustin Haisler, Chief Innovation Officer for the Center for Digital Government. “The Government Experience Awards were developed to recognize government agencies that are focusing on designing and delivering services across the overall experience and not necessarily just one channel.”

DMV Commissioner Pat Reed added, “We are excited to be recognized by the CDG for our efforts to bring some of our most popular DMV services to our customers, while cutting wait times in our regional offices.  To date, we’ve surpassed over 350,000 transactions, both online and at the kiosks, and that number just keeps climbing as more and more customers take advantage of these services.”

Kiosk and online services include vehicle registration renewal and driver’s license renewal, and obtaining a driving record.  Additional services will continue to be added, and more is available online, including conducting a personalized plate search and paying reinstatement fees.

Visit dmv.wv.gov to see the most current list of online services available, as well as our popular kiosk locations, or contact the DMV at 1-800-642-9066.
