The Fort Henry Bridge
was built in 1955 as the first portion of Interstate 70 in West Virginia. It now carries over 60,000 vehicles per day. The West Virginia Department of Transportation has developed the I-70 Forward Bridge Rehabilitation Project to rehabilitate the Fort Henry Bridge, along with 25 others requiring updates, to accommodate future traffic needs. The I-70 Forward initiative, currently in the construction phase, is a multi-year project that includes bridge rehabilitation and reconstruction from Ohio to just east of the Elm Grove Interchange.
