Statewide Highway Statistics
The Division of Highways maintains a world-class mountain transportation system traversing valleys, rivers, and rugged terrain. Below are the infrastructure totals as of December 31, 2024:
- Total Public Roads: 39,138 miles
- State-Owned: 34,945 miles
- Municipally Owned: 3,279 miles
- Federally Owned: 914 miles
- Interstate Highways: 555 miles (State-owned)
- West Virginia Turnpike: 86 miles
- National Highway System (NHS): 2,094 miles
- Includes 20 miles of connectors to airports, trains, and bus terminals.
- Bridges: 7,276 total structures (35% exceed 100 feet in length).
- Scenic Byways and Backways: 1 All-American Road, 5 National Byways, 13 State Byways, and 12 Backways.
