Bridge Deck Replacement Project: I-79 Gabe's Creek Bridges

Demolition work is scheduled to begin soon as part of a major project to replace the decks on the northbound and southbound Gabe's Creek Bridges on Interstate 79, located north of Elkview. The West Virginia Division of Highways (WVDOH) previously awarded a $7,582,451 contract to Orders Construction Company to replace the original 1976 reinforced concrete decks with brand-new structures.

Traffic ImpactsPhased construction: Contractors will demolish and replace the outside lanes first before shifting traffic to replace the inside lanes. The speed limit is strictly reduced to 55 mph through the work zone.
Estimated CompletionFall of 2025

Current Status: Concrete barricades have already been installed and equipment is on site. Active demolition work is slated to begin once temperatures warm up.
