Kokosing will also open parts of the new Jefferson Road roundabout and close the CSX Railroad crossing at Jefferson Road and Kanawha Turnpike.

The work is part of an approximately $47 million project to widen Jefferson Road to five lanes between Corridor G and US 60 in South Charleston. The initiative aims to improve driver safety and flow by eliminating the old CSX rail crossing through the construction of the new bridge and roundabout.
The new bridge initially opened to northbound traffic on Thursday, May 22, 2025. Following the upcoming shift, the bridge will carry one lane of traffic both north and south while contractors complete the final phase of construction and continue work on the roundabout and local community connections. These new intersections are specifically designed to eliminate left-hand turns that caused heavy congestion on the old road alignment.
