West Virginia Parkways Authority Warns Motorists About Text Scam

Fraud Alert: E-ZPass Text Messaging Scam

On January 21, 2025, the West Virginia Parkways Authority and the E-ZPass Group issued an urgent alert regarding a widespread fraudulent text messaging scam. This "smishing" campaign targets toll road users across the United States, attempting to deceive customers into providing personal and financial data via counterfeit websites.

The scam involves text messages claiming to be from “E-ZPass Toll Services.” These messages typically state that the recipient has an outstanding toll balance and must click a link to pay immediately to avoid late fees.
