Work to begin Monday, October 26, 2026, on US 35 paving project

Work is scheduled to begin Monday, October 26, 2026, on a paving project to smooth out a rough section of US 35 in Putnam County.

In August, Bear Contracting LLC was awarded a contract for $4,794,056.54 to repave an approximately 1.2-mile section of US 35 between Hurricane Creek Road and Five and Twenty Mile Bridge. It is one of several rough sections of highway on US 35 that the West Virginia Division of Highways (WVDOH) intends to smooth out.

Phase 1 of the project, which involves milling out the old road surface and repaving, will require closing the US 35 northbound slow lane and shoulder. The speed limit will be reduced to 50 mph until the project is complete.

One lane of northbound traffic will remain open during construction.

Work on Phase 1 is expected to be completed in December. All northbound and southbound lanes will eventually be repaved.
