WVDOH provides alternate access for closure of railroad crossing at Vintroux Road

West Virginia Division of Highways (WVDOH) work crews have improved a narrow Putnam County road to allow residents of Vintroux Hollow an alternate way in and out when the railroad crossing at Vintroux Road is closed next week.
 
CSX Transportation is closing the crossing at Vintroux Road at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 7, 2025, to replace railroad ties and repave the crossing. The crossing is expected to reopen by 6 p.m. Wednesday, October 8, 2025.
 
Vintroux Road has only one way in and one way out. But WVDOH District 1 Manager Stefen White said Tompkins Crossing Road connects to Vintroux Road and could provide an alternate way in and out with a few improvements.
 
White said WVDOH road crews have added rock and smoothed out Tompkins Crossing Road to make it passable to most vehicles while CSX is working on the railroad crossing.
