The West Virginia Department of Transportation (WVDOT) encourages local media and the public to join them in commemorating the 58 state highways workers who have lost their lives on the job at a ceremony at noon today, Thursday, April 24, 2025, at the state Fallen Workers Memorial in Williamstown.

The ceremony is being held in conjunction with National Work Zone Safety Awareness Week. The WVDOT urges drivers to pay attention in work zones so both they and highway workers can go home at the end of the day. On Monday, April 14, 2025, an employee of the West Virginia Parkways Authority was struck and killed while patching potholes on the West Virginia Turnpike.
