Portland Cement Concrete Inspector
Portland Cement Concrete Inspector Certification
The Portland Cement Concrete Inspector Certification program ensures that both industry and Division personnel are proficient in the sampling and testing of concrete. This certification is a critical component of the West Virginia Department of Highways (WVDOH) quality control and acceptance programs, ensuring that all concrete used in state infrastructure meets strict durability and safety standards.
Examination Requirements
To become a certified inspector, applicants must demonstrate both theoretical knowledge and hands-on technical skill through a two-part examination process.
| Examination Type | Focus Areas and Proficiency |
|---|---|
| Written Examination | Focuses on Fundamentals, Sampling and Testing, Control and Inspection, and West Virginia Standard Specifications. |
| Practical Examination | A hands-on demonstration of proficiency in conducting standard tests common to concrete quality control. |
Certification Benefits and Authority
Successful completion of both examinations qualifies the individual to perform essential roles in the construction process:
- Industry Personnel: Authorized to perform sampling and testing relevant to the project quality control program.
- Division Personnel: Authorized to perform sampling and testing relevant to the official acceptance program.
ACI Reciprocity
The WVDOH offers a streamlined certification path for individuals who already hold national credentials. If you hold a current ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician – Grade I Certification, you may become a WVDOH Certified Portland Cement Concrete Inspector by:
- Submitting proper ACI documentation to the MCS and T Division.
