Written Examination Areas

The written examination for a Concrete Technician consists of the following core areas:

  • Fundamentals
  • Sampling and Testing
  • Control and Inspection
  • Mix Proportioning and Adjustment

Requirements & Scope of Certification

Exam Requirement: The Concrete Technician requires only the successful completion of the written examination; no practical examination test is required.

Certification of the Concrete Technician qualifies the employee (either Industry or Division) to handle:

• Plant and mix adjustments

• Mix proportioning

• Other designated technical duties

NRMCA Certification Reciprocity

If an individual holds a current NRMCA Concrete Technologist Certification, Course, "Short Course", they may become a West Virginia Department of Highways Certified Portland Cement Concrete Technician by completing two steps:

  1. Submit the proper NRMCA documentation.
  2. Pass a West Virginia Division of Highways online certification exam.
