The West Virginia Division of Highways (WVDOH) is proposing a streetscape improvement project along US 60 (4th Avenue) in downtown Huntington. The project limits extend from 8th Street to 12th Street. This initiative is designed to enhance the aesthetic appeal of the corridor, improve pedestrian safety, and ensure full compliance with Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards.
Project Description & Proposed Improvements
The streetscape project focuses on revitalizing the 4th Avenue corridor to support local businesses and improve the urban environment. Key components of the project include:
- Pedestrian Infrastructure: Complete replacement of existing sidewalks with new, ADA-compliant surfaces.
- Safety Upgrades: Installation of new curb ramps and improved crosswalk markings.
- Aesthetic Enhancements: Installation of decorative street lighting, coordinated site furniture, and urban landscaping/street trees.
- Compliance: The project is being developed in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act.
