Work Zone Safety

The West Virginia Division of Highways is constantly working to improve and maintain West Virginia’s diverse network of roadways. Due to a growing number of roadway improvement initiatives, the number of roadwork projects in the Mountain State are increasing. The warm weather during the summer months is the optimal time for roadwork, however, work zones are utilized year-round for a variety of maintenance and improvement work. This summer, expect to see many work zones on your commute to and from work or on your way to your long-anticipated summer vacation. Work zones may cause delays, and you should plan ahead and find another route if necessary. It is incredibly important that while driving through work zones you slow down, put away distractions such as cell phones, and pay attention. This is for your safety and the safety of the dedicated men and women who may be working on the roadway just feet from your vehicle. Remember, JUST SLOW DOWN. It’s everybody’s responsibility.
