One lane of Interstate 64 East between mile marker 1 and mile marker 6 is reopen following an interstate closure on Sunday night, July 12, 2026.
I-64 East was closed between the Kenova and West Huntington exits after a large pothole opened in the eastbound Gimlet Hollow Overpass Bridge a little before 8 p.m. Sunday. West Virginia Division of Highways (WVDOH) work crews have made temporary repairs and one lane reopened on the bridge on the morning of Monday, July 13, 2026.
In October 2023 Triton Construction was awarded a contract for $37,798,745 to replace both the eastbound and westbound Gimlet Hollow overpass bridges with a single new structure.
Westbound traffic has already been shifted onto the new overpass bridge. Eastbound traffic is expected to be shifted to the new span on Thursday, July 16, 2026.
