Repairs are complete to patch a large pothole on the Fort Hill Bridge in Charleston, but West Virginia Division of Highways (WVDOH) work crews must wait for the concrete to cure before reopening two closed westbound lanes.
The bridge carries Interstate 64 across the Kanawha River in Charleston. Two westbound lanes were closed on Thursday, July 10, 2025, after a large pothole developed overnight. WVDOH work closed the affected lanes to make repairs. One lane remained open, but traffic was moving slowly.
Two lanes were closed between the Virginia Street on ramp and Oakwood Road off ramp on Thursday. The Virginia Street on ramp was also closed during repair work.
The Oakwood Road off ramp was closed for several hours to allow a bucket truck to work under the bridge. The ramp reopened Thursday afternoon.

WVDOH repair crews used a concrete mixture to patch the hole. Repairs were complete a little after 3 p.m. Thursday.
Now it’s just a matter of waiting for the concrete to cure before all lanes can reopen. That could take anywhere from a few hours to a day or two.
The WVDOH will update the public on the status of repairs.
