CHARLESTON, WV – West Virginia Division of Highways (WVDOH) bridge crews and officials with the state Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) are on the site of a fiery truck crash that closed the southbound Sixteenmile Creek Bridge on US 35 in Mason County.
A southbound tractor trailer carrying mail crashed on the bridge just before 5 a.m. Friday, March 28, 2025. The truck jumped the parapet wall, plummeted to the ground below and burst into flames. The bridge remains closed, and southbound traffic is being diverted onto WV 817.
The driver was taken by helicopter to a local hospital.
The crash damaged a 30-foot section of parapet wall and spilled fuel onto the bridge. WVDOH bridge inspectors will inspect the structure to ensure the fire did not damage the bridge superstructure.
The WVDOH will keep the public updated as more information is available.
