The West Virginia Division of Highways (WVDOH) has closed a short-span bridge on County Route 7/3 (Sycamore Creek) in Calhoun County after a structural failure made it unsafe for motorists. The bridge, located at milepost 0.40 near Basswood Drive, was closed Friday afternoon after crews discovered significant damage to the steel structure. The span will remain closed for an extended period while a full repair plan is developed and implemented.
Motorists are advised to seek alternate routes, as the bridge will be impassable during repairs. Drivers on U.S. Route 16 can reach the area using Russet Road near Grantsville (to the north), or Sycamore Road and Mallard Road (to the south). Traffic coming from U.S. Route 119 may also detour via Russet Road.
There is currently no estimated timeline for completion of the repairs, as crews are still assessing the extent of the damage.
