West Virginia Division of Highways (WVDOH) bridge crews are expediting the replacement of a 20-foot bridge on Woodward Drive in North Charleston.
The bridge was closed on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, following a routine bridge inspection.
Because Woodward Drive is an important thoroughfare for residents, the WVDOH decided to expedite replacement of the structure, said Stefen White, district manager of WVDOH District 1, which includes Kanawha, Putnam, Boone, Clay, and Mason counties.
White said the district filed paperwork for an emergency bridge replacement. “We put in an emergency order for the steel,” he said.
District 1 bridge crews have already removed the old bridge. They plan to pour concrete for the new bridge the week of Monday, May 19, 2025, and complete the replacement as soon as steel arrives within the next few weeks.
