The West Virginia Parkways Authority warns drivers to make travel plans around expected heavy traffic from Friday, May 23, 2025, to Monday, May 26, 2025, while traveling through the Turnpike. The projected traffic transactions for Memorial Day weekend 2025 are expected to reach approximately 237,000 vehicles. The highest traffic volumes are anticipated on Friday, May 23, and Monday, May 26.
There are expected to be backups at the Chelyan Toll Plaza for northbound traffic. Just past the toll plaza, there is a bridge reconstruction project that puts traffic in one lane.
“We expect there’s going to be heavy traffic from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday through Monday, so make sure you schedule around that,” said West Virginia Parkways Authority Interim Director Parrish French.
The tolls for passenger vehicles are $4.50 per plaza. There are three main toll plazas along the Turnpike. Alternately, an E-ZPass costs $27.50 annually for unlimited use, plus a one-time transponder fee.
