President of the King Coal Highway I-73/74 Authority is David B. Akers of
Matewan. Elected at the July 16, 2002 meeting of the Authority’s Board of
Directors, Akers is secretary and treasurer of Akers Supply in Matewan and
vice president of Akers Magnetite in Wayne County. He is a graduate of
Magnolia Matewan High School, attended Marshall University and Southern
West Virginia Technical Community College and served two tours in Vietnam
during four years of service in the U.S. Marines.
A 20-year member of the Tug Valley Chamber of Commerce, Akers has served
as chairman of its Transportation Committee for 18 years. In addition to
service on numerous boards, committees and community service
organizations, he is a certified surface mine safety instructor and a
member of the Marshall University Quarterback Club Board.
