Project Summary
The West Virginia Department of Transportation (WVDOT), WVDOH, in cooperation with the FHWA, is proposing to construct an approximately 63-mile Coalfields Expressway (CFX) from the vicinity of Slate, Virginia to the vicinity of Beckley, West Virginia (WV). A Final Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS) was approved in 1999 and the Record of Decision (ROD) was approved in 2000 for the 63-mile-long corridor. Large, costly, and complex highway projects, including transportation, corridors, are often advanced over many years through the completion of operationally independent sections of highway. The current section under design is located in Wyoming County, WV and consists of an approximately 8 mile section of CFX, and two connector roads: Twin Falls State Park Access Road and the Mullens Connector. The Twin Falls State Park Access Road (Cabin Creek Road/CR 10/13) is an approximately 2.8-mile connector to Twin Falls State Park. The Mullens Connector is an approximately 1-mile road which will consist of a four-lane roadway that will connect County Route 12/1 and Mullens. The attached map depicts the loaction of the CFX Mullens to Pineville project, The Twin Falls State Park Access Road, and Mullens Connector.
