The I-70 Forward initiative is a multi-year infrastructure project focused on the rehabilitation and reconstruction of 26 bridges along the Interstate 70 corridor in Wheeling, West Virginia. This essential work extends from the Ohio state line to just east of the Elm Grove Interchange.

Project Background and History

Built in 1955, the Fort Henry Bridge was the first portion of Interstate 70 constructed in West Virginia. Today, it serves as a critical transportation artery, carrying over 60,000 vehicles per day. The West Virginia Department of Transportation developed the I-70 Forward project to rehabilitate this historic structure and 25 others to ensure the region can safely accommodate future traffic needs.
